Macbush

Act V, Scene 7

On Capitol Hill. Two citizens meet.

1st CITIZEN.: Bleed, bleed, poor country!

2nd CIT.: Think you, the king shall be deposed?

1st CIT.: I think our country sinks beneath the yoke.
It weeps, it bleeds, and each new day,
A gash is added to her wounds.

2nd CIT.: Some say he's mad; others, that lesser hate him,
Do call it valiant fury; but for certain
He cannot buckle his distempered cause
Within the belt of rule.

1st CIT.: I grant him bloody, luxurious, avaricious,
False, deceitful, sudden, malicious, and
Smacking of every sin that has a name.

2nd CIT.: Not in the legions of horrid hell can come
A devil more damned in evil to top Macbush.

1st CIT.: Now does he feel his title hang loose about him,
Like a giant's robe upon a dwarfish thief.

2nd CIT.: Macbush is ripe for shaking.
Receive what cheer you may.
The night is long that never finds the day.
